As we reach the end of 2019 I wanted to take some time to think back and reflect on all the wonderful weddings I’ve shared in this year. Here are a few of my favourite shots from this fantastic year, I’ve also explained why I love these particular photos and there are a few behind the scenes notes as well. Enjoy!
These were quite possibly my favourite ever wedding shoes. I love to photograph the little bridal details on a wedding morning and these blingy shoes instantly grabbed my attention, fantastic!
I loved this morning snap of the bride sharing a celebratory drink with her mother and mother-in-law; such a relaxed and genuine moment of happiness and anticipation of a great day ahead.
This is probably my most commented on ‘getting ready’ photograph of the year, I just think this moment is so relatable, the bridesmaids are so clearly proud of their best friend, mum is helping make sure everything looks perfect - it’s an action shot that really tells the story of what really happens behind the scenes in the bridal suite.
I love using natural light wherever I can, windows are perfect for bridal portraits. I loved the detailing on the arms of this lace wedding dress, so delicate.
These groomsmen shared a serious love of ‘The Beatles’…so we created a bit of Abbey Road for them right in York city center.
This moment where the father-of-the-bride saw his daughter in her dress for the first time still brings a lump to my throat, priceless moments.
This first kiss was one of my favourites, by standing at the front of the room looking back I managed to capture not only this lovely couple’s first kiss but also the reactions of their friends and family.
Speaking of first kisses, could any location be as perfect as this summer outdoor ceremony?
Walking down the aisle as man and wife is a special moment for every couple, I love how excitedly this bride and groom celebrated their newlywed status.
So beautiful. I was blown away by the stunning bluebell woods a short walk away from this bride and groom’s wedding venue, the perfect location for a stunning portrait. I also check out my client’s wedding venues a couple of weeks before the big day and scout out those perfect places for the photos.
I love this photograph because it shows that rain really won’t ruin your day (or your wedding photographs either), it rained quite heavily all day at this wedding, so we had to be clever to get the perfect photos, this is actually taken under an archway near the front door - so the couple stay nice and dry but we still get that beautiful natural light and a view of the gardens. Don’t worry, a bit of rain will never ruin your big day!
This is a bit of an unusual choice for me, but this groomsmen shot was so fun and so action packed I just had to include it!
My last favourite from 2019, this city center shot shows the bride and groom walking off together hand in hand; I love how their wedding clothes contrast so fantastically to the everyday sights of the city, and I also love the placement of that arrow draws the viewer’s attention right to the couple.
